Yesterday Class 12 enjoyed a fantastic and fascinating visit to Drax power station. First the processes involved in making electricity were explained and we had chance to look at different models of the whole Drax site as well as the single units. We had to put on PPE- personal protective equipment- before we could go round the site. We got up close to the cooling towers.

Yesterday we started working towards our 1K a day. We all went out and walked briskly around the field 4 times. Today we were allowed to walk, jog or run at our own pace for 10 minutes and counted how many laps we did. We all walked at least 4 with some running as many as 9. This week we have been learning about the greenhouse effect and global warming. The greenhouse effect is a good thing because it keeps Earth warm enough to sustain life. However our use of fossil fuels is causing a build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is keeping too much heat in. We covered Oakley in lots of layers of sweatshirts to demonstrate how much hotter they made him just like the build up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is causing global warming.
This afternoon the whole school took part in inter-house cross country. Here are some photographs. |
