With all our running round doing '1K a day' we have worn the trim trail out. So this afternoon we spent time spreading fresh bark. We all worked hard as a team filling, fetching and carrying buckets of bark to tip out and spread to re-make the trim trail. It was hard work but satisfying!
This afternoon year 5 and 6 all took part in the annual inter-house football and netball competition. There were some close matches and the overall result is a closely guarded secret.
Class 12 had a lovely time planting trees at Pecket Well yesterday. We were helping the local environmental group 'Treesponsibility' who plant trees in the local area to help the environment.
In the morning we carefully planted oak, birch, rowan and field maple 'whips'. It was important to do the job well to give the trees the best chance of survival.
In the afternoon we fastened deer guards around the trees and put straw around the base of the trees as a mulch.
The final activity for our science week was to design a fair test so we could decide what the best material was for a hairdresser's towel.
How did your group make the test fair?
We used what we knew about the different properties of materials to help us to separate a mixture of all sorts of things.
Can you remember what we used to get each substance out? What did we use to get the paper clips? How did we separate the sugar from the sand?
Yesterday we looked at everyday changes and tried to decide if they were reversible changes or irreversible.
Some of the changes made new substances and were irreversible.
Can you remember which were reversible changes?
It is science week in year 5 so we are learning all sorts about different materials and their properties.
On Monday we sorted objects according to the materials they were made out of.
On Tuesday we carried out a fair test to work out which solids would dissolve into different liquids to make a solution.
Can you remember how we made sure it was a fair test?
