This half term we have been comparing places in the UK with places in Africa. We have thought about our town Elland and a small village in Ghana. So we have used our Art project link with 'The Artworks' to enhance our learning through art. We have learnt so much about Africa and its patterns and textures. Sara and Harriet from the Artworks have helped us. First we went on a trip to Halifax to see the gallery and art studios there. Here we practised some new techniques and then the brilliant, talented ladies came to our school to deliver art lessons. We learnt techniques such as printing, mark making, weaving and many others. Year 2 worked as a team to produce our finished product, a 3D continent of Africa. It was such fun! Olly declared at the end of one our arty days 'Miss Booth, it's the best day of my life.' The children gained so much. If you would like to further develop your child with their art, check out: www.theartworks.org.uk/ or ring 01422 346900 They run clubs aimed at different ages. The teachers can guarantee they will love it!
The rain is set to hit us on Tuesday and Wednesday but we will not be perturbed! All children have been allocated waterproof jackets and trousers as well as walking boots. Theses items have been paid for over the years by the PTFA... We will make good use of them!
